Following an early breakfast at your Riad, our journey commences with a dramatic ascent across the High Atlas Mountains via the magnificent Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260m). This route offers stunning panoramic vistas and traditional Berber villages built into the mountainside. Our first essential stop is the legendary Aït Benhaddou Kasbah, a fortified mud-brick village recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built by the powerful El Glaoui chieftain, this Kasbah is the largest and most beautifully preserved in Morocco, offering a profound glimpse into 19th-century Berber architecture and history. After enjoying an authentic lunch near the Kasbah, we continue along the famous “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs” toward the Dades Valley, passing through Ouarzazate, often called “The Hollywood of Africa.” We will pause at Kelaa M’gouna, the renowned Rose Valley village, before concluding the day with dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel that provides spectacular, commanding views over the Dades Gorges.
Following breakfast, the day begins with a spectacular drive out of the Dades Valley, known as the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs,” passing ancient Berber mud fortresses and unique geological formations, such as the famous “Monkey Fingers” rock outcrops. Our primary stop is the breathtaking Todra Gorge, where a massive river fault has split the red limestone mountains, creating a spectacular canyon with sheer, towering walls that reach up to 300 meters high. Here, guests will have the opportunity to take a memorable walk between the colossal cliffs, absorbing the dramatic scale of this natural cathedral, which is also a renowned international destination for rock climbers. We continue our journey through the pre-Saharan expanse, passing the town of Tinghir and traversing landscapes dotted with lush palm groves and historic Ksars (fortified villages). Lunch will be enjoyed en route before we enter the plains leading to Erfoud, an area celebrated for its prehistoric marine fossils. The day culminates upon arrival at the village of Merzouga.

We then proceed to the historic town of Rissani, the dynastic origin of Morocco’s ruling family and a crucial former terminus for Saharan trading caravans, to explore its exotic and vibrant old souk, offering an authentic immersion into traditional rural commerce and local Berber life. Our cultural journey continues to the village of El Khamlia to meet the Gnawa people, descendants of slaves brought from Sudan, and experience their soulful, rhythmic traditional music and unique cultural heritage.
