In this 4-day Desert Tour, guests will embark on an unforgettable Marrakech to Fez desert crossing commencing in Marrakech and concluding in Fez, meticulously designed to immerse them in the nation’s most mesmerizing landscapes, history, and culture. This thoughtfully crafted journey seamlessly blends adventure with deep cultural engagement, traversing the high passes of the Atlas Mountains, exploring ancient fortified Kasbahs and cinematic filming locations, and culminating in the majestic, ever-shifting golden dunes of the Sahara Desert. The experience provides a perfect balance of rugged natural beauty and historical discovery, offering a comprehensive and enriching view of Morocco’s diverse geographical and cultural tapestry.
After breakfast in your riad/hotel, we will start our journey southeast of Marrakech towards the Dades Valley. Our drive will take us through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass, with an altitude of 2260 m, the highest pass in Morocco. You will enjoy amazing views of this fascinating landscapes and the Mud Berber villages. Continuing south, we arrive at the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, probably the most celebrated, filmed, and photographed kasbah in Morocco. Featured in numerous films (including Lawrence of Arabia, The Sheltering Sky, Gladiator, Babel, etc.), it is the best-preserved Kasbah in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Arriving in Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa” with its famous Atlas Film Studios. We will continue on to Dades, along with the “Road of the thousand Kasbahs”—the fascinating “sand castles”—before stopping at Kalaat Mgouna, “Rose’s city,” known for roses and its annual festival during the rose harvest in May. Eventually, we’ll arrive at our riad overlooking the Dades Gorge.

After breakfast in your riad, we will drive back through the valley to see the amazing rock formation known as “the monkey toes” and the still-standing 19th-century Kasbah of Ait Yul. Leaving the Dades Valley toward Tinrghir and the Todra Gorge, you will see panoramic views of the old mud-brick Berber villages overlooking the valley and walk beneath the 400-meter-high red cliffs, a popular spot where many rock climbers come to enjoy their preferred sport. Continuing our trip toward Merzouga via the city of Erfoud, we will arrive at Merzouga later on. There, you will be welcomed with a glass of mint tea before you check into your accommodation.

Following breakfast, the day is dedicated to an immersive exploration of the desert region and its surrounding culture. The journey begins with a visit to Erfoud, a small town globally recognized for its remarkable fossil deposits, with an optional opportunity to tour a local workshop and observe the intricate craft of fossil preparation. Next, we travel to the exotic souk of Rissani, a traditional and historically significant town that served as the origin of Morocco’s current ruling dynasty and was once a crucial meeting point for trans-Saharan caravans trading as far as Timbuktu. Here, you will witness the distinctive traditional attire, with men hooded and women veiled, and may opt to visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif, the founder of the Alaouite Dynasty.
Our cultural exploration continues with a visit to the typical village of Khamlia, home to the Gnawa people, who are descendants of slaves brought from West African countries such as Mali and Mauritania. This stop provides a unique opportunity to experience their vibrant local music and delve into their unique way of life. Khamlia is also famous for a local specialty often referred to as the Berber Pizza, which you may enjoy for lunch.
The day culminates at the camel staging area. As the sun begins its descent, you will mount your camels and ride over the sands toward the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes, witnessing the landscape transform into a wonderful red hue under the evening light. You will spend the night in a luxurious Nomadic Tent, enjoying a delicious dinner and the captivating rhythms of a live Berber music band under a spectacular canopy of stars in the heart of the Sahara Desert.

Today, after your breakfast, your 4-day desert tour will conclude with a scenic drive toward Fez. The day commences early as your camel guide wakes you up to witness a truly unforgettable Sahara sunrise over the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes. Following this breathtaking experience, you will complete the return camel trek to the village of Merzouga to meet your driver. The journey continues, transporting you along the magnificent and fertile Ziz Valley, where a stop will be made to capture the panoramic views overlooking the dramatic Ziz Canyon. The extensive drive proceeds through the Middle Atlas Mountains, with a scheduled lunch stop in the city of Midelt. Subsequently, the route passes through Ifrane, often charmingly referred to as “The Small Switzerland of Morocco,” and continues into the scenic Cedar Forest. Here, you will pause for a unique photo opportunity to observe the native Barbary apes. In the late afternoon, you will proceed directly to the imperial city of Fez, where the tour officially concludes.
